Hello and welcome to NewsHour Live from the BBC World Service in London.
I'm Rebecca Kesby.
They say a week is a long time in politics.
Well, four months is an eon.
At the beginning of this year,
a betting person would have put money and possibly lots of it on the Conservative Party to win in the next Canadian election,
possibly by a landslide.
At the time, the governing Liberal Party was so far behind in the polls,
they may have even struggled to come second.
Four months on and it's a completely different story.
It's victory for the Liberals and their new leader, Mark Carney.
and the Conservative leader, Pierre Poliev, has not only lost the chance to be Prime Minister,
but has actually lost his seat in the House of Commons.
This was the scene at the Liberal Party headquarters last night as the announcements came in.
Canada's next government will be a Liberal government.
It is not yet clear at this hour whether it will be a Liberal government.
So what went right for the Liberals and what went wrong for the Conservatives?
And could one word answer both those questions?
Is that word Trump?
A short while ago, I caught up with our chief international correspondent, Lise Doucette, in Ottawa.
