  • For the bonus segment for our West African show,

  • I wanted to give you some things that I couldn't get in for time in the body of the episode itself.

  • One of those things is the Niger, or you might think of it as the Niger River.

  • Have you ever thought about the fact that there are two countries,

  • Nigeria and Niger, or Niger as some people sometimes call it?

  • And you might think that where those countries get their names is something colonial and highly unfortunate.

  • You might think that Nigeria means basically Blackia and that that's what Niger means too.

  • You know, that's actually not true.

  • And many people from those countries think that.

  • You might think that.

  • But actually,

  • it isn't from the Latin slash romance word for black and then with shades of a word that I need not mention,

  • etc. Actually.

  • There's a Berber language.

  • Remember the Afroasiatic show?

  • And so Afroasiatic has six subfamilies.

  • Semitic is one of them and the best known.

  • Then there are the Berber languages.

  • Berber is a subfamily.

  • One of the Berber languages, Tarek,
