Hello and welcome to Neuzar from the BBC World Service, coming to you live from London.
I'm Julian Marshall.
Donald Trump famously promised during his campaign to end the conflict in Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office.
I don't know how many hours have passed since his inauguration in January,
but 100 days are coming up and a peace deal remains elusive.
So elusive that President Trump says he's prepared to walk away from negotiations.
He was asked about comments by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio,
that America will stop trying to broker an agreement between Russia and Ukraine
if there are no signs of progress in the next few days.
No specific number of days, but quickly we want to get it done.
2500 a week are being killed in battle.
It's a vicious battle and we're going to get it stopped ideally.
Now if for some reason one of the two parties makes it very difficult,
we're just going to say you're foolish,
you're fools, you're horrible people and we're going to just take a pass,
but hopefully we won't have to do that.
And earlier today the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov insisted
that Russia was earnestly seeking a way to put negotiations on.
On-going contacts are quite complicated
because naturally the topic of a peace settlement in Ukraine is not an easy one.
