27 分钟Cutting through an overload of information to get to the heart of the story, this is the point.
And I witnessed to the day history was made.
The day was October 25th, 1971, the 26th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which adopted Resolution 2758.
This monumental resolution restored all rights to the People's Republic of China and recognized the representatives of its government as the only legitimate representatives of China to the UN.
Welcome to a special edition of The Point with me, Liu Xin, coming to you from Beijing.
I have a special guest today.
He was born in Taiwan and witnessed the passing of that historic resolution in the UN's headquarters in New York 54 years ago.
What were his thoughts as he witnessed this historic moment?
What does he think of those now bringing into question Resolution 2758?
I'm pleased to be joined by Charles Liu, founder of Howe Capital,
who is also a senior fellow at Taihe Institute and founding director of the Center for China and the world at City University of Macau.
Charles, welcome to The Point.
Thank you for having me.
Let's talk about that very important day in the history of China, October 25th, 1971,
where there was a historic vote on whether China's lawful rights should be restored to representatives from the People's Republic of China and that motion was passed with a landslide.
You were there.
Tell us about it.
I was there and I can't describe the feeling at that time of having watched this whole process go on.
For many years, many friends of China tried to bring China back to their lawful seats,
but failed because of the procedural motion.
