And it is a measure perhaps of how far the world order has been shaken
that a visit by two of Donald Trump's top officials to Paris to talk in the first instance about Ukraine,
how that visit is seen as significant as perhaps the sign of a shift.
Because what was once so unremarkable
that the US and Europe might have common cause and a common approach in trying to end Russia's war in Ukraine is no longer a given.
So how far could just the presence of the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the in attendance today has been Jonathan Powell,
the UK's national security adviser.
