单集简介 ...

Contributor(s): Ralitsa Angelova, Oliver Bulleid, Christian Hilber, Kath Scanlon | We’ll hear how planning restrictions established in the 1700s are still preventing development on some of London’s most valuable land. Experts will set out why we can’t afford to not build on the greenbelts that circle some of our major cities. And an Executive Director will explain how his organisation is building homes that will be truly affordable in perpetuity. Sue Windebank talks to: Ralitsa (Rali) Angelova, a young mum whose family has had the chance to buy an affordable flat in London; Oliver Bulleid, Executive Director of the London Community Land Trust; Professor Christian Hilber, an urban and real estate economist at LSE and; Kath Scanlon, Distinguished Policy Fellow at LSE London.

  • Hi, Raleigh.

  • Hi, nice to meet you.

  • Shall I leave my shoes just here?

  • I'm Raleigh, Raleigh Angelova.

  • I'm 33-year-old and I work as a rehabilitation assistant in a local hospice.

  • I have two little boys, a boy of two years and another boy of four months and a husband.

  • And when did you move into Citizens' House?

  • We moved on the 20th of January this year, 2023.

  • So quite recently, yeah.

  • And how have you found it so far?

  • We have found it amazing.

  • It's like living a bit in a dream.

  • It's an amazing feeling.

  • It's an amazing feeling to live here.

  • Raleigh and her family have recently bought and moved into their very first home in southeast London.

  • With ever-escalating house prices,

  • this is an out-of-reach dream for many people in the capital and other parts of the country.

  • But Citizens' House is a genuinely and permanently affordable housing project,

  • newly developed by the not-for-profit London Community Land Trust.

  • More about them later.
