I'm Sam Fennick.
On the programme today, China's President Xi Jinping has issued a stark warning,
declaring that there will be no winners in the trade war as tensions escalate.
He's touring Southeast Asia aiming to strengthen ties with neighbouring nations.
On the programme today, we'll explore the options he has available to him.
We'll also examine the impact of Trump's tariffs and how they're shaping U.S. consumer confidence.
It would be one thing if people just felt bad about business conditions or just felt bad about inflation,
but we're seeing it across the board, across multiple dimensions of the economy.
And what about tariffs could they need to drug shortages in the U.S.?
What I worry about is that as we see market exit,
we are not going to see other players come in or expand production, and we might actually see shortages.
And later on in the programme, we'll discuss alternative paths to economic growth.
Could university spin-out companies be the key to unlocking new opportunities?
As ever here on Business Matters, we'll be joined throughout the programme by two guests on opposite sides of the world.
It's a very good evening to Emily Fang.
She is international correspondent for NPR and is joining us today from Washington, D.C.
Hello, Emily.
Hello.
It's so lovely to be here.
