My name is Anna and you're listening to week 3 day 5 of your English 5 a day.
The second season.
This is the series that's dedicated to expanding your vocabulary so
that you feel more like yourself when communicating in English.
So let's start as we always do with a snapshot of what's to come.
The city now a thriving hub of innovation owes much of its success to the company's golden boy whose groundbreaking ideas have propelled it forward.
Though his colleagues worship the ground he walks on,
some felt he let the side down when he failed to deliver on a major project.
Still, his manager remained even handed, treating him fairly while addressing the team's concerns.
Now don't panic if that didn't make sense.
Don't get your knickers in a twist.
That's what this episode is all about.
Explaining some unfamiliar words and phrases.
So let's begin with the noun hub a hub.
A hub we spell hub h u b. A hub is a central airport or a station that operates many services or it can be the central and most important part of a particular place or activity.
So think about your place of work for example.
Where is the busiest and most important area within the place that you work?
Is there a room where most of the operations or the most important operations take place?
That would likely be the hub of your company, of your business.
