Hello and welcome to the English like a native podcast.
My name is Anna and you're listening to week four, day four of your English five a day.
Season two.
This is the series that is dedicated to exploding your vocabulary so
that you can be more expressive when communicating in English.
And with a new episode every day of the working week, you'll always have something to listen to.
But if you'd like to get a little bit more,
then you can by becoming a plus member where you'll get access to the most recent transcripts and exclusive bonus episodes.
I'll leave a link to plus membership in the show notes.
But for now, let's focus on today's vocabulary and we'll start with a snapshot of what's to come.
Listen closely.
Jason's mock fall had the audience roaring,
but will he stand out as a star or just stick out like a sore thumb in a night of farcical acts?
With his laces tied tight and his nerves in check, Jason's about to prove that humour and heart make all the difference.
Now don't worry if that was a little bit confusing.
Everything will become clear throughout today's episode.
So let's begin with the phrasal verb stand out.
Stand out.
Often followed by as to stand out as stand S T A N D. Out O U T as if you stand out as something,
then it means that you're shown to be much better or more important than somebody or something.
