Hello and welcome to the English like a native podcast.
My name is Anna and you're listening to week five day one of your English five a day.
The second season.
This is the series that is dedicated to expanding your vocabulary so
that you feel more like yourself when communicating in English.
So we start the episode with a snapshot of what is to come.
A few sentences that include all of today's target vocabulary.
So listen closely.
The old car began to judder violently as Sasha drove down the dark country road.
She was starting to lose her grip on the steering wheel when she noticed flashing blue lights in her mirror.
A police car was signaling for her to pull over with shaking hands.
She reached for the glove box to get her driving license.
But when she opened it, she saw only darkness.
Her car's dashboard lights had started to flicker and then gone completely dead.
Okay, let's now dive into this vocabulary.
We start with the phrasal verb pull over towards pull over pull P-U-L-L over O-V-E-R.
To pull over is used when referring to vehicles.
It means to move your vehicle to the side of the road and stop.
So a police car may pull you over if you're driving and there's something wrong with your car.
Or maybe they've done a check on you while following you and they realise you're not insured or there's an issue.
