I covered the Lucy Letby trial at Manchester Crown Court,
then the retrial and the subsequent public inquiry.
I think when you spend so long on any story, you become more attached to it than you normally would.
I'd met the doctors involved, I met the detectives involved.
These babies were incredibly tiny, incredibly fragile, incredibly vulnerable.
So it was all, it was all really, really upsetting.
I mean, the whole trial was difficult to cover because the evidence was so complex, so scientific.
Josh Halliday spent much of 2023 in Manchester Crown Court watching the trial of Lucy Letby,
a neonatal nurse who was accused of killing or attempting to kill 14 babies.
He'd listened to months of evidence
and will not forget the harrowing testimony of the baby's parents who sobbed
as they remembered their twins,
their triplets, their tiny premature babies.
