  • Hello and welcome to NewsHour.

  • It's live from the BBC World Service in London.

  • I'm Tim Franks.

  • This time yesterday I was telling you about a ceasefire deal that had just, just been announced.

  • A deal to bring a ceasefire to Gaza, a release of Israeli hostages and an ensuing freeing of Palestinian prisoners and increase in any aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip.

  • Today, perhaps this was only to be expected.

  • There appears to have been obstacles, objections, warnings that the ceasefire due to start on Sunday could be delayed, and at the same time, continuing violence in Gaza, with dozens killed in Israeli strikes over the last 24 hours.

  • As for the arguments within Israel over the terms of this deal, well, it does still need to be signed off by ministers.

  • And shortly before we came on air, one of them, the far right Security Minister Itama Ben gvir, said he would quit the government should the deal go through.

  • Current deal gives them greater appetite, gives Hamas more motivation.

  • This deal teaches them that they can kidnap and abuse and hurt and finally ultimately get what they want.

  • I think that the release of the hostages should be done in another way.

  • We should stop completely the humanitarian aid to the Gaza State Strip.
