BBC Sounds Music Radio Podcasts hello, I.
Wish I'd known that I was stirring the hornet's nest when I said, oh, when do you stop saying Happy New Year?
Because people have had very, very strong thoughts on it and it's been fascinating to read them.
Here is an email from Claire Farr from Oslo.
I thought you might be interested in the Norwegian rules of what and when to say different greetings over the Christmas and New Year's period, says Claire.
From the first Sunday in Advent you say Happy Before Christmas.
From about the 23rd to 25th of December you say Happy Christmas.
From the 26th to the 30th of December you say Joyful Christmas.
On New Year's Eve you say thank you for the old 1.
On the 1st to about the 3rd of January you say happy New Year in one word.
From about the 3rd to the 6th of January you say happy New Year and from then until about now you say Happy Happy Year.
After that you just don't mention it.
And do not mix up the different versions because you will be corrected.
Hope this helps.
Clare.
That does help massively, although I noticed there were a few abouts there, so if I was living in Norway, I'm not sure I'd be completely convinced what to do on the 5th or the 6th or thereabouts.
But thank you anyway.
Adam Fernandez emails another Adam, I was listening to the January 9th edition of your podcast.
Good for putting the date on it, Adam, and I was interested in this discussion.
