  • Hi friends, it's Rosie here.

  • Welcome to Radio Headspace.

  • Recently, I was out to dinner with my longtime partner, Tori, and I made a mistake.

  • He stood up to go to the bathroom, the waiter came, and I ordered for him.

  • He came back, he actually didn't want what I'd ordered,

  • and everything was fine, but I felt bad about it.

  • I just felt like we'd been together for so long.

  • that of course I'd know exactly what he wanted.

  • But as we were driving home, it made me stop to think.

  • I talk about having a beginner's mind all the time,

  • seeing things with fresh eyes and without assumptions.

  • But I realized I hadn't been applying that to my own relationships.

  • The concept of beginner's mind, shoshin, literally means beginner's mind in Japanese.

  • It's about approaching life as if every moment is brand new.
