The Dark is Rising tells the story of Will Stanton, an ordinary boy who begins to have uncanny,
disturbing, magical experiences on the day of his 11th birthday.

He is the youngest son in the family of Stanton's and is also an old one.
You are one of the old ones, the first to have been born for 500 years.

What Will discovers is that he belongs to this extraordinary group of time-travelling,
ancient beings.
They're called the old ones.

He's a very young boy as well.
He's going on a quest to protect the world against the dark.
He just goes through all these different quests through time and space,
trying to find these signs to fight back the dark with the help of his kind of mentor, Merriman.
The powers of the dark are reaching out now steadily and stealthily all over this world.
Merriman has a profoundly dark side to him, you know, a moral ambiguity.
He's capable of cruelty, Merriman, a shocking cruelty at times.
It's a hard battle and it calls for compromise on all sides and part of the drama of this story is watching will.
