Hi, I'm Sam and welcome to Radio Headspace and to Tuesday Morning.
Yesterday, I mentioned that I was going to be talking about self-care all week.
So before I dive in, I wanted to check in to see if you did find a moment for yourself yesterday.
If stress or anxiety came up, did you find out what you needed to resolve them?
If not, that's totally fine.
I think some of the hardest days for me are when I can't seem to figure out exactly what I need.
I know I need some kind of rest, but I don't know what kind of rest I need.
and it feels like nothing will satisfy me.
I end up just lying still for a while until that restless and confused energy starts to settle.
Rest is something we all need, but we don't always know what type of rest we're needing.
I recently found an article by Dr. Sandra Dalton-Smith about seven different types of rest,
and I'd like to share them with you.
And when I say rest, I'm not just talking about sleep.
It's more than that.
The seven types of rest are physical, mental, sensory, creative, emotional, social, and spiritual.
And I know that's a lot, but don't worry, we're going to go through each one right now.
Physical rest is pretty straightforward.
It's what most of us think of when we think about rest, aka sleeping.
And you may be familiar with active rest or heard this term more in relation to sports or exercise.
But active rest includes things like taking a walk or doing restorative yoga.
