单集简介 ...

In our first-ever After Hours sports episode, we ask why sports teams have become so valuable (is it really just the vanity of billionaire owners), debate the merits of paying amateur athletes, and explore why tennis pros receive such a small fraction of the sport’s overall revenue. Can hedge fund icon Bill Ackman save tennis?   Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  • Hello, everyone. This is After Hours.

  • I'm Felix.

  • I'm Mihir.

  • And I'm Lane Higgins, a sports reporter from the Wall Street Journal.

  • Welcome, Lane.

  • We're so happy to have you.

  • Thank you so much for having me.

  • Yeah, it's a special week because sports is a topic across many of the TED podcasts,

  • and we're super excited that you join us.

  • It's going to be great.

  • Happy to be here.

  • Lane.

  • I have to ask, what's advantage of being a sports reporter?

  • We don't get free tickets.

  • And that's the biggest misconception.

  • I was an athlete in college and my coach always asked me,

  • so when are you going to get me Giants tickets?

  • I was like, I'm so sorry, but that's not something I can ever do.

  • Obviously, in the course of our work, we're on the field,

  • we get to mill around and like that perspective of sports is really cool.
