Hello, welcome to Radio Headspace.
It's Eve here, and it's Friday.
I hope you can have a restful weekend.
I wanted to end this week by sharing a concept called the maybe principle.
And it starts with a story.
It's the story of the Chinese farmer.
I first heard it from Alan Watts, and it goes something like this.
Once upon a time, there was a farmer who had a horse.
One day, the horse ran away.
His neighbors came to console him and said, that's such bad luck.
The farmer simply replied, maybe.
A few days later, the horse returned.
bringing with it several wild horses.
The neighbors came back again, this time congratulating the farmer on his good fortune.
And again the farmer said, maybe.
The next week, the farmer's son was trying to tame one of the wild horses,
and he fell, breaking his leg.
The neighbors came once more again, saying, how terrible.
And the farmer once again said, maybe.
Shortly after, the army came to the village to draft young men for the war.
