Picture a science class where the teacher doesn’t have all the answers,
where the lesson plan says this: "Go outside, get your hands dirty, and figure it out."
This fall, that’s exactly what’s happening across China:
students fermenting rice to understand microbiology,
testing soil to learn geology, watching experiments fail and start over.
We go to science class today to see what’s new and exciting.
First up, what happens when a science lesson starts not with a textbook,
but with a simple question from everyday life?
This autumn, schools across the country are encouraged to let students learn science by doing.
From making sweet rice wine to testing how sandy soil holds water,
the goal isn’t just getting the right answer,
but learning to ask questions, learning to try and fail and rethink and then try again.
Getting your hands dirty actually makes science education more meaningful.
Is that true, or does letting kids loose on real problems risk teaching them less, not more?
