  • Hello and welcome to Super Great Kids Stories.

  • Wise tales from storytellers around the world, which will make you laugh and sometimes cry.

  • Recommended for ages 5 to 105.

  • I'm Kim and I love stories.

  • Hello Super Great Kids and how are you?

  • I hope you're having a good summer with lots of splashing around in water and maybe even taking time to tell a story or two.

  • I've enjoyed watching the Olympic Games in France.

  • It's exciting seeing gymnasts flying through the air and people racing on bikes and in canoes.

  • This week's story is all about a canoe race.

  • It's a thought provoking legend from the Marshall Islands,

  • a chain of islands in the Pacific Ocean which lie between Hawaii and the Philippines.

  • The storyteller is Marion Leeper from Cambridge in the UK.

  • And she's told stories

  • since she was 6 years old and now she tells them at festivals and museums and libraries.

  • Marion also helps to organise a storytelling festival in East Anglia in the UK every year.

  • Hats off to her, that's a busy job.

  • Just before we hear from Marion, I've got a question for you.

  • If you were taking part in the Olympics just supposing, what sport would you choose?

  • Would you be a gymnast flying high on bars or would you race on a BMX bike or in a canoe or maybe in a swimming pool?

  • Have a little think about that while we have a quick word with the grown-ups.
