It can be eating the meal, preparing the meal, talking about the meal, cleaning up after the meal. Use each sense: taste, texture, smell, sound and sight. 单集文稿 ...

  • Smell it up.

  • Smell it all up.

  • This is Start with this, a podcast featuring Night Vale creators Joseph Fink and me, Jeffrey Cranor.

  • Each episode we discuss a topic, then give you two assignments.

  • Something to consume and something to create.

  • The five senses.

  • Art is hard.

  • Starting is hard.

  • If you want to start somewhere, you can start with this.

  • You can start with this.

  • When we ask someone to envision something, the word envision is already biased towards sight.

  • They're thinking about colors and size and shape.

  • And while we can certainly ask people to imagine the sound or think of a smell or taste or feel of something, there is no equivalent word to those senses like envision is for sight.

  • Writing for a non visual medium like podcast or print, I think we feel the need to fill people in on what they cannot see.

  • Of course we do.

  • But these mediums also lack smell, touch, taste, and sound.

  • We cannot forget those things either.

  • What we see is only on the surface and it's a vibrant facade, to be sure.

  • But let's not forget about the taste of cumin, the smell of a dog's fur, the sound of a wood floor, and the feel of a chalkboard eraser.

  • I'm Jeffrey Cranor, smelling like stale jeans here with Joseph Fink, who sounds like an old friend.
