Get ready to hear from some of the most influential international figures in the social sciences.
Good afternoon, everyone.
My name is Susanna Morato.
I'm the Vice President and Pro Vice Chancellor for Research here at the LSE.
And it is a real pleasure to welcome you all to the Malaysia Theatre Auditorium for today's event hosted by the LSE European Institute.
We are honoured to welcome Alexander Stov,
the 13th President of the Republic of Finland, who assumed office in March 2024.
Finland is often admired internationally not only for its diplomacy but also for the strength of its institutions,
education system and democratic culture.
President Stobb has had an extraordinary career spanning academia,
European institutions and national leadership.
He has served as member of the European Parliament, Finland's Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.
Before his election as President,
he was Professor and Director of the School of Transnational Governance at the European University Institute in Florence.
We are particularly delighted to welcome him back to LSE,
where he completed his PhD in international relations,
writing his doctoral thesis on flexible integration in the European Union.
It is always a special moment when one of our alumni returns to the school,
