Welcome to the LSE events podcast by the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Get ready to hear from some of the most influential international figures in the social sciences.

Thank you very much and welcome to this morning's event hosted by LSE's European Institute.
My name is Yaprak Gursoy and I'm professor of European politics

I'm very pleased to be joined by Professor Darlan Ajemoglu
for this event to discuss his new book, What Happened to Liberal Democracy?
Remaking a Politics of Shared Prosperity.
Before we proceed, can I please ask everyone in the audience to check that their phones are on silent?
And also, please be aware that we are recording
this event and we are going to try to make it available as a video and a podcast later on.
We have one hour, so I will keep my introduction as brief as possible.

Professor Adrian Mulder received his master's and PhD degrees from LSE.
We're very proud of that.
After he graduated from LSE, he became a professor at MIT,
and he's been there since 1993. And, of course, very recently, he became a Nobel laureate.
I'm also sure that most of you are familiar with his ideas through his articles
