  • Discussion keeps the world turning.

  • This is round table.

  • Young people often face a difficult dilemma.

  • On the one hand, they are the future of our society and possess unlimited potentials for growth.

  • On the other hand, they are yet to acquire the desirable skills and experiences to stand out in the job market and bring changes to the world.

  • Hello, I'm Lai Ming and this is roundtable today with new Holly and Li Yi.

  • Let's see what the society can do to create an environment for youth development and give young people a leg up.

  • And July 15 marks the 10th UN World Youth Skills Day.

  • And this year they're paying attention to the main theme, which is youth skills for peace and development.

  • And this can be rather inclusive of many issues.

  • And I'm referring to, for instance, the conflicts that are being found in East Europe and Middle east, and referring to certain regions in the world where there are constant conflicts and certain young people are not necessarily exposed to a plentiful of job opportunities.

  • And rather, they're forced to have to command certain skills that they need to survive in the hosteling environment, that kind of thing.

  • So this is rather inclusive and it really demonstrates the stance that the UN has, being an international organization for global governance and really paying a lot of attention to the conflicts that are going around in the world.

  • But we like to start with the agenda and then perhaps narrow down to the efforts that chinese people are doing to provide a leg up for young people and what the country can do for youth around the world as well.

  • And let's begin with the UN agenda.

  • In UN statement, violent conflicts disrupt education and stability.

  • A polarized online environment fostering negativity and persistent economic inequality limits opportunities.

  • These are very, very real issues that young people have to face in many parts of the world.

  • Definitely.

  • Actually, we see that this is rather an aim at the bigger picture, because when it comes to this special day, the world youth skills day, originally, or our first instinct, would be focusing on how to give the young people more opportunity to learn new skills, how to make sure that their new skills are actually needed in the job market that can earn a living or bring some bread to maybe not the family's table, but at least their own tables.
