Hello and welcome to Intelligence Squared.
Im head of programming Conor Boyle.
For this episode were learning about the history of Turkey with the writer Sammy Kent, whose new book is the endless a personal journey through Turkeys 1st 100 years.
Joining him in conversation is Hannah Lucinda Smith, Turkey correspondent for the Time and Monocle magazine.
Let's hear from Hannah now with more.
The history of Turkey is often told in well worn tropes, but journalist, audio producer and now also author Sami Kent went for something a little more personal and heartfelt in his new book, the Endless a personal Journey through Turkey's 1st 100 years.
The book is a beautifully created collection of stories reflecting every decade of the first century of the Turkish Republic.
And more than that, it's also an insight into Samir's dual perspective as an outsider with 1ft on the inside.
He was born in Britain to a turkish father and an english mother, and as an adult he went back to Turkey to discover his roots.
So Sami, welcome to Intelligence Squared, and let's start by talking a little bit about your personal perspective.
What was it that first made you decide to go back to Turkey as an adult and also as a journalist?
