  • The two sessions, an important political event which sets the agenda for China every year, concludes this year's schedule on Monday in Beijing.

  • The country's top lawmakers and political advisors have reviewed the work of the government and set new goals for socio economic development in the year to come.

  • A window to track Chinas domestic and foreign policies.

  • The two sessions has also attracted international attention.

  • Hello, Im Li Ming.

  • At thiss roundtable today, we present a recap of the event and look at some of the most important issues arising on the occasion.

  • Joining me on the show are our regular panelists from roundtable new hauling and our guest Miss Georgia Maset who has a masters degree in advanced european and international studies.

  • She will share her perspective on how the world would interpret the messages conveyed at the two sessions.

  • To begin with, there are standard procedures and new developments every year at the two sessions.

  • Nihon Lee, why dont you start by giving us a brief recap of what constitutes the standard practice at the two sessions before we move on to the particular issues in discussion this year.

  • Well, the two sessions, referring to the National Peoples Congress and the Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference, typically follow a standard procedure including the NPC sessions and the CPPCC sessions.

  • For the NPC sessions, we have the opening ceremony with speeches from top leaders, review and approval of government work reports including economic and social development plans, voting on key legislative matters such as laws and amendments, and also selection of top government officials and appointments to key positions.

  • And when we talk about government reports, it's not only the chinese government government report, but also for example supreme people's Procurement work report or the top courts report.

  • And all that would give people an idea of what these major organizations of the country have done in the previous year and what are some important agenda they have for the following years.

  • As for the CPPCC sessions, of course we would have deliberations on political, economic, social and cultural issues, proposal of recommendations for government policy and action, and discussion of major national concerns and development strategies.

  • As we know, people or members of CPPCC would be people from all walks of life.

  • They are from different industries, they have different backgrounds in terms of ethnic groups, in terms of their occupation.

  • So they would bring a lot of interesting proposals.
