Chinese travel market heats up in summer

  The summer holiday has begun and all across the country the tourism market is heating up.

  So we are in the midst of summer holiday and this might be different from let's say a summer holiday in a different country like in the US and the UK.

  So when exactly do summer holidays begin and why is it here?

  Well I think it just depends on different schools and for primary and middle schools,

  sort of they go with the local policies within that city or town.

  And I check you know for most primary school and middle schools, their summer vacations start in early July which is basically today and also for some schools their vacation

  also starts early and the summer vacation sort of ends at the end of August.

  So the whole summer vacation would just usually last for one or two months and also for college.

  I think each university sort of decide their own summer vacation, how long is it and when they will just start it and end it.

  And this year for most colleges and universities here in Beijing, basically their summer vacation also starts in early July or mid July and also ends at the end of August.

  And I know that each year actually there is a literally competition you know among different college to you know for those kids, for those young people to you know compare which colleges

  summer vacation is longer.

  So this year obviously the winner in Beijing is Peking University so yeah young people in that college they've got 78 day summer vacation from late June to September 8th.

  Well that's interesting and amazing yeah for students they certainly enjoy that and when comes to summer holiday there's this common misunderstanding with the wording in Chinese

  we call it shu jia which means like the summer break which is why a lot of us even as we were students we tend to take it as a time when we relax and take a break and just enjoy

  our time while the temperature gets super hot to have outdoor activities.

  But in fact by design summer holiday in fact was a time that people are supposed students are supposed to study.
