Let's imagine your body is a house and there is a small fire.
This small fire is what we call an infection.

Eight years ago that small fire arrived in my life.
Normally, your immune system acts like firefighters trying to put it out.
At 32 weeks pregnant, I gave birth to twin boys, born eight weeks early.
However, in sepsis, the firefighters lose control
and instead of stopping the fire, they flood and destroy the whole house.
Sepsis, a word I'd never really taken notice of before, but in the years that followed seemed to be everywhere.
The body overreacts to an infection and begins to cause organ failure, affecting the kidneys, lungs or heart.
It is a very serious situation and a race against clock.
Every minute counts to save the patient's life.
