Hello and welcome to BBC World Book Club where you get to talk about their books
with the world's most interesting authors.
I'm your host Octavia Bright and today we 're talking about The Darkness,
the internationally best-selling crime novel by Icelandic author Ragnar Jónason.
So Ragnar, welcome to BBC World Book Club.
Thanks for having me.
Now this book was first published in Icelandic with its Icelandic title Dimma.
In 2015.
So you've written at least seven novels since then.
And you're actually here in London for the book fair right now, aren't you?
Yes.
I imagine talking about your latest book.
Yeah, so this is a slightly older one, but one I'm quite proud of.
So I'm always happy to come back and talk about The Darkness.
Excellent.
We'll go back in time a little bit.
This book is the first in your Hidden Iceland trilogy.
So it's told in reverse chronological order.
And in it, we meet Detective Inspector Hulda Hermansdotir on the day that she is forced into early retirement.
She's not happy about it.
