Hey, I'm Ikra and this is What in the World from the BBC World Service.
Today we're talking talc, that white powder is sometimes found in our makeup.
There 's been a lot of chat recently about the safety of talc, so in this episode we 're going to get into all of that,
why it 's in so many of our makeup and cosmetic products, and whether we should be avoiding it too.
Okay, so let's get into it.
I'm with BBC journalist Phoebe Keane, who produced a podcast series called Talc Tales.
She's done a lot of research in this area.
Hey, Phoebe.
Hey.
So, Phoebe, before we sat down, I was having a look for talc in some of my makeup products.
It's in my blush, it's in my powder.
I was quite surprised about that.
What is talc?
Yeah, so talc is actually a mineral.
So that means it's naturally formed in the earth.
So it's like, to me and you, it would just look like chalky rock.
So yeah, it's a rock and you mine for it.
Yeah.
And why is it in so many of our makeup products?
Yeah, so it's useful because it absorbs moisture.
