Rafi Kohan: Tomorrow may just be the best day of the year because it's the first day of baseball season.
I'm Rafi Kohan.
I'm a Yankees fan, but I don't want to try to convince you that
baseball is the best sport in the world or why the Red Sox are the worst.
I'm here to talk about trash talk
and why we need more trash talk in baseball and probably in other places too.
Really, I believe that trash talk is fundamental to who we are as people,
to who we are as competitive creatures.
I feel so strongly about that I wrote a book about trash talk.
I like to describe trash talk as the language of competition.
It's how people talk to one another when they're going head to head.
Archived Recording: We'll take you on right here, right now!
Come on!
Rafi Kohan: You kind of know it when you hear it, like in 'The Sandlot.'
Archived Recording: Hey, is that your sister up there in left field, naked?
She's naked. Shut up, Porter.
Rafi Kohan: Or Bad News Bears.
Archived Recording: Come on fight, you're crummy bellyache, and throw the ball to first base!
Rafi Kohan: The best trash talker of all time is probably Muhammad Ali.
Archived Recording (muhammad Ali): I said, Joe is going to come out smoking.
