Adelle Waldman: My name is Adelle Waldman, and I am a novelist.
My new novel is called 'Help Wanted,' and it comes out in March.
It's about workers at a big box store
who plot to get rid of their bad boss.
It's a novel in which I wanted to explore work in contemporary America, and specifically, low wage work.
I spent six months working at a big box store several years ago,
and my novel grew out of that experience.
What I saw made me really, really want to write about it.
I liked my coworkers a great deal,
and I had a lot of fun on the job,
and the work itself was not so bad.
We unloaded the trucks of new merchandise that came into the store each morning.
That was kind of a team effort.
It was a little bit fun and spirited.
We tried to unload the truck in less than an hour,
and it was a big truck.
So this could be challenging.
Then, after that,
we would unpack boxes and put merchandise away.
I found I don't really mind folding clothes, especially baby clothes.
