  • Hey, good evening everyone.

  • My name is Professor Chris Alden and I'm here as the chair of this event.

  • This is another of the innovative events of the LSE Festival of Cruising, which is a play that will talk about issues.

  • That are broadly the theme of our festival this week, Climate Change.

  • We're very pleased to do a reading from Cruising, which has been written up by Katrina Bennett.

  • We are joined by the actors Davy Rodrick and Brooke Johnson.

  • And Brandon as well.

  • Brandon Smith.

  • He said I couldn't make it.

  • I was willing to accept it.

  • This is a, if I could say just a bit of words, a few things about Katrina's work.

  • This is her first play.

  • This is not her first play.

  • Her first play was Choose Your Fighter.

  • It was developed with mentorship from the barrel.

  • Oregon Theatre and debuted in festivals across the Midlands and had a sold-out run at Camden's People

  • Theatre in 2023. It was underwritten by the Arts Council and Jerwood Arts Studio New Work Fund.

  • Our next play, Consumed, was co-written with Dream Guy Collective and has sold out also at the CPT in 2024.
