Hello and welcome to Intelligence Squared.
I'm producer Faye Adebita.
For this episode, we're jumping back a few centuries to take a new look at a trailblazing writer, Margaret Cavendish.
Born in England in 1623 to a wealthy family, Cavendish's writing ranges from philosophy to poetry and plays.
At a time when the world was dominated by men, she defied the conventions of the time by writing under her own name and even wrote what is now considered to be a proto science fiction novel, the Blazing world.
So why do we rarely hear her name today?
Looking to put that right is journalist and now author Francesca Peacock.
Her recent book, Pure the Revolutionary Life of Margaret Cavendish, aims to tell the world more about the life of one of the UKS boldest writers.
Joining Francesca to talk about the book is the historian, writer and podcaster Helen Carr.
Helen specializes in medieval history and is author of the best selling book the Red Prince.
