  • This is Harry, and welcome back to our podcast, where we try and help you with your understanding of the english language.

  • What I have for you now are a couple of examples where we use some alternative expressions and they have a specific meaning.

  • And I'll explain those to you as we go through the two examples.

  • Okay, so the first one, if I were in your shoes, I think I would resign on the spot.

  • If I were in your shoes, I think I would resign on the spot.

  • So when we use this, if I were in your shoes.

  • Again, we are having.

  • Having some sort of view, some opinion.

  • Yeah, we're expressing our opinion, but we're expressing it in slightly different way here.

  • We're using the conditional tense if I were.

  • Yeah.

  • If I were.

  • Not.

  • If I was.

  • When we're using the conditional with if we change was to were.

  • So it's if I were in your shoes.

  • So in your shoes means if I was in your place.

  • Or if I were you is another way to express it.

  • So if I were in your shoes.
