  • Hi there.

  • This is Harry, and welcome back to our podcasts, where I try to help you with the understanding of the english language in relation to both the grammar and spoken English so that you can improve your conversational aspects and therefore perhaps have more meaning when you meet somebody, either in a social context, in a business meeting, or in fact, if you're travelling.

  • So this week we've been talking about future intentions, and in the first three podcasts, we've looked at will going to, and then the present continues.

  • So in the fourth one, we're going to talk about present simple and how we use that when we're talking about something that actually happens in the future.

  • So why would we use present simple when we're talking about the future?

  • Well, we usually use it when we're talking about something that has been scheduled or scheduled.

  • And here you can use both pronunciations.

  • I often mix them up and use scheduled someday.

  • Scheduled another day doesn't matter.

  • One is American English, the other is British English.

  • They exactly have the same meaning, just different pronunciation.

  • Scheduled.

  • Scheduled.

  • Okay, so as I said, we're talking about present simple, and it's something that you have on your schedule.

  • So let's look at that.

  • Normally, when we're talking about schedules, we can talk about things such as planes traveling by airplane, train going to the railway station, bus, the bus station, or indeed scheduled events like visit to the cinema or the theatre.

  • Okay, so these all have specific schedules.

  • You go to the airport or you check online and you see when the plane is going to arrive, when it is going to leave, when a train is going to arrive, when the train is going to leave, when a bus.

  • So they all based on timetables or schedules, and the same with the cinema or the theatre.

  • You look it up and you see the cinema showing 02:00, 03:00, 04:00 theatre 730 or 745 in the evening.
