10 分钟Hi there, and welcome to our English podcast, where I try to help you understand the english language a little better to improve your grammar, improve your pronunciation, but more importantly, the aspects of communication.
So what do I have for you in this podcast?
Well, we're going to look at some phrasal verbs.
Okay.
And I'll go through each of them and give you some examples as we go through them.
So I've taken them randomly.
They're not very normal phrasal verbs, so hopefully you'll understand them and find a use for them in your conversation.
First one is to put it down to.
So it's a multi part phrasal verb.
Put it down to.
So we can use this in many ways.
For example, if I am suffering from a bad cold or sore throat or generally don't feel well, and somebody might say, oh, well, how did you get the cold?
Or what happened?
Ah, I think I put it down to the fact that I've been working hard recently, I've been tired, not eating properly.
So I'll put it down to that, meaning I will blame or that's my excuse, or the reason why I think I'm suffering from that cold, or a repeated number of colds over several weeks.
I'll put it down to overwork.
Okay.
And we can use put it down also if somebody is in a bad mood, perhaps, and when you're talking to them, they get a little bit snappy.
