6 分钟Hi there.
This is Harry, and welcome back to my english podcast, where I'm trying to help you understand english expressions, phrases, phrasal verbs, and all aspects of english grammar.
So in this podcast, I have a number of expressions for you, four, in fact.
So the first one, to talk shop.
To talk shop.
When we talk shop, it means we talk about business.
So it's okay to talk about it in the office over business meeting or conferences.
But when we get home, a lot of people don't like partners, in particular don't like us constantly talking shop.
So to talk shop all the time can be a little bit boring for them.
So when they are discussing their husband or wife partner, they say, oh, it's terrible.
I thought I could get away from business.
But all he wants to do, even at the party, is to talk shop.
Okay, meaning to talk about business, we can also say something is a talking shopper.
And that's slightly different.
It means when nothing happens, just a lot of people sitting around the table talking all the time.
So a lot of talk and no action.
So somebody might describe some of these intensive brainstorming sessions, say, ah, I'm a little bit fed up with those.
All they are are talking shops, people who like to listen to their own voices.
Nothing gets decided and nothing gets done.
So that's a talking shop.
