  • Hi there.

  • This is Harry, and welcome to my podcast where I try to help you with your understanding of the english language with aspects in relation to grammar, idioms, phrasal verbs, and all the essential ingredients to help you to communicate better.

  • What do I have for you this week?

  • Well, what we're going to look at now are some words connected with business and employment.

  • So I'll give you the words and I'll give you a brief explanation.

  • To fly high.

  • When somebody is flying high or a business is flying high, it means it is doing really well.

  • Okay.

  • It's up there with the bird.

  • So really doing fantastic and everything is good.

  • We can also have a person who is a high flyer, and this would describe an employee who is or an entrepreneur who's really, really doing well.

  • They're very successful.

  • They have lots of qualifications, lots of success in everything they do.

  • So they show huge potential and being very successful to data high flyer or to fly high to fall through.

  • Well, when a business deal falls through, it cannot be completed, it cannot continue in, cannot proceed, or had a great idea to set up an office in Singapore, but it has fallen through at the last minute due to political problems in that area.

  • To fall through means it cannot continue because of economic, financial or political reasons.

  • Though the meeting I had last week to sign that new client, it's fallen through.

  • I'm not sure why.

  • I think somebody else has approached him and he's got a better deal to get down to business.

  • When we get down to business, it means we want to start business.
