8 分钟Hi there.
This is Harry, and welcome back to our podcast where I'm trying to help you to get a better understanding of the english language so that you can make progress when you're speaking to people in the office, in the restaurant, or holidays, wherever it might be.
So what do I have for you this time?
Well, we're going to continue with collocations connected with work.
So I'll give you the collocation, I'll explain it and give you an example.
Okay, let's get started.
So the first one, a foolproof solution.
A foolproof solution.
This means a solution that cannot be faulted, a solution that is bound to be successful, and a solution that is going to work.
So, foolproof solution is something that should be easy enough to find, but something that cannot be questioned and is bound to give us a result.
A foolproof solution.
A foolproof solution to a particular problem so it won't reoccur, it won't happen again.
So we usually use the words, I have come up with a foolproof solution, or can you come up with a foolproof solution?
Or I need you to provide me with a foolproof solution, something that cannot be, that cannot fall apart later on or that somebody cannot pick fault with.
Okay, next, a major drawback.
So it's not a small drawback, it's a major or something quite serious.
And drawback is another word for a disadvantage or a negative.
Okay.
So when we have a major drawback, it's something that's going to stop us for a while, some block in our decision making, something that's going to cause us to have a rethink.
So the government have introduced a new plan to bypass a certain city with a new ring road.
