6 分钟Hi there.
This is Harry.
And welcome to the podcast, where I try to help you to understand English in a little better way and so you can learn how to speak it in a more enjoyable way, either from a business point of view or indeed, if you're applying for jobs where you might be interviewed in English and also where you might use it just in a personal capacity.
So whatever your reasons are, let's sit back and enjoy the podcasts.
So in this podcast, we're going to talk about the difference between three words, okay?
And these words have similar meanings, but when we use them, we use them in a slightly different way.
So the three words are strike, s t r I k e.
Strike, hit, and beat.
Okay, so we can strike something.
We can hit something, and of course we can beat something.
Okay?
But when do we use the three of these?
Okay, so I can strike a child, I can hit a child and beat a child, shouldn't.
Of course.
I'm just using that as an example.
So don't take me literally, but to strike, to hit and to beat here have the same meaning, okay?
Or somebody has an animal, they might strike the animal for stealing some food.
They may hit the animal for stealing some food.
They may beat the animal for stealing some food.
So here again, the words have the exact same meaning, strike, hit, and beat.
