  • Hi there.

  • This is Harry, and welcome back to my podcast where I try to help you to understand and use English in a better way.

  • So we try to improve your grammar by use of phrasal, verbs, idioms, expressions, and also help you with some basic structures so that your conversational English and business English can improve.

  • So what do I have for you in this particular podcast?

  • Well, we're going to talk a little bit about change.

  • And when we're talking about change specifically, we're going to look at idioms about change.

  • Okay, so these are expressions that you can use in your English.

  • So I'll give you the idiom and then I'll give you a definition and hopefully a good example of it.

  • Okay, so let's start with the first one.

  • Break the mold.

  • So, as I said, this is all about change.

  • Okay?

  • A mold mould is something that you make to create, you know, a piece of pottery or a piece of sculpture that you pour in your, your clay or whatever it is, to create the shape.

  • So this is the mold.

  • So when we say to break the mold, we want to change our lives.

  • We want to change the way we do things.

  • Yeah.

  • Okay.

  • So to break the mold, to destroy it, to completely change things.

  • So we might have done things in a certain way for the last 10, 15, 20 years, but you decide you want to live life in a different, perhaps better way.
