12 分钟Hi there.
This is Harry, and welcome back to my podcasts.
And the podcast I have for you today is talking about different words that describe people's work, whether it's a profession or a job.
And what is the difference between those words?
Because in most dictionaries, they will be shown as synonyms for each other, but we use them quite separately and in very specific situations.
So I'll go through them one by one, and then I'll give you some examples as to how you can understand and notice the difference between them.
Okay, so let's get started.
So, as I say, we're going to talk about synonyms for work or jobs, and I want to set out the differences between five different profession, career, job, work, and occupation.
The most common word is either job or work.
They all say, what do you do for a living?
Means what work do you do?
Or what's your job at the moment?
And then you explain to somebody exactly what you do for a living, what your job is, and what work you do from day to day.
Yeah.
And often they get used, as I said, synonymously, work, job, job, work.
But there are lots of differences between them.
For example, somebody who has a profession is often seen as somebody working in an office.
Okay?
So they could be a banker.
So their profession is in banking.
