12 分钟Hi there.
This is Harry.
And welcome back to the podcast where I try to help you to improve your understanding of the english language, whether it's to communicate in business or in ordinary conversations.
And we look at grammar, and in grammar we look at phrasal verbs, idioms and expressions, and other phraseology.
So what are we going to look at in this podcast?
Well, here we're going to look at other words and other ways to say stop.
So as always, I'll give you the words and phrases that I think are suitable, and then I'll give you an explanation as to what they mean.
Okay, so let's start.
So we're talking about other words to say to stop.
Okay, so we can simply say halt.
Yeah, we want to get somebody to stop.
You say halt, and it's usually a command halt.
In the movies, the soldiers at a border crossing, halt.
Who goes there?
Yeah.
So this would be an instruction or a command that you stop.
And if you don't, they're likely to open fire.
Or you might say a sign on the road, halt, which means to stop.
Okay, halt.
Next word is prevent.
