8 分钟Hi there.
This is Harry, and welcome back to my podcast, where I help you to get a better understanding of the english language so that you can talk to people, have conversations with people, and impress people with your control and fluency.
So we do that by looking at the grammar aspects, of course, and looking at idiomatic expressions, phrasal verbs, and all sorts of other aspects, in particular, pronunciation.
So, this particular podcast is brought to you by the letter I.
So, last week we had the letter h.
Now we're looking at the letter I.
And this can be a little bit confusing, because when we look at the Alphabet a b c d, e f g h I, we pronounce I like the word eye I with a dot on it.
But of course, in words like in or if or it, then of course, we're not pronouncing I.
It's not I for I or ein.
Yeah, it's in or it or if.
So, there's an immediate confusion for those people who are trying to learn the language for the first time, and that's understandable.
But the most important thing, first of all, is that it is the letter I.
Okay?
So, hopefully, I'll give you some exercises to do, some words you can practice and give you a better understanding of those pronunciations.
So, as I said, when we have words like if it in, then the sound is a much shorter vowel sound.
Okay, it's a much shorter vowel sound.
And when we talk about the normal letter I, it's got the long vowel sound AI.
Okay, so we can use letters like high.
Okay, high.
The high wall.
