  • Hi there, this is Harry, and welcome to my podcast, where I try to help you to understand the english language in a better way so that you can communicate with your friends, your colleagues and strangers if you ever get the chance to travel in this COVID infected world.

  • So today we're going to focus again on pronunciation, and this time it is sponsored by the letter M.

  • Okay, m, okay, l last time, now the letter M.

  • So we'll look at the words, some sounds and pronunciations, and hopefully you'll get a better understanding of how to use it.

  • Okay, so let's look at the letter M, and as always, if you like this and you like other podcasts, please tell your friends, invite them to come along and listen, and we'll all enjoy more English together.

  • As always, at the end of this particular podcast, I'll give you contact details if you wish to contact me.

  • Okay, so we're going to look at the letter M.

  • The letter M is the 13th letter of the Alphabet and 13 for many is an unlucky number.

  • And this is no exception for the letter M because it's a little bit boring, really, and trying to find something interesting, it wasn't so easy to find something interesting.

  • There are lots of words that begin with the letter M, and there's some different sounds, particularly with the vowel sound.

  • So let me give you a few of those.

  • So with e, m, it's a long e, m, o, m, I, you must, m, must.

  • Okay, so e, m, o, most I missed, you must.

  • And then finally a or a must, ma, must.

  • So meet most missed, must, meet most missed, must, and must.

  • And also with the letter M, we have Mc or Mac.

  • And we usually find that in people's names, irish and scottish names in particular, they have Mac, MacDonald, MacDougall, MacMorrow.

  • So all Mc or Mac pronounced exactly the same as Mac, like the coat that you wear, the Mac, or the computer that you use, the Apple Mac.

  • So Mc, always in those names, irish and scottish names, MacDonald, the MacDonald clan.

  • Okay, so Mac, Mc, or Mac.
