  • Hi there, this is Harry, and welcome back to another podcast where we try to help you to get a better understanding of the english language so you can improve your english conversations, your business English, and every aspect of English, including pronunciation, grammar, phrasal verbs, other idiomatic expressions.

  • As always, I'll give you my contact details at the end of this particular podcast, and if you have a friend or contact that you think will benefit.

  • From this, well, invite them along.

  • Okay, so without further ado, as they say, let's get talking.

  • Okay, so what is the podcast about today?

  • Well, today we're going to talk about phrasal verbs with talk, okay?

  • So all of them are the verb talk with a specific individual preposition, and that makes up our phrasal verb.

  • So let me give you the list of them, and we'll go through some examples.

  • Talk over something, talk at someone, talk around something, talk back, talk something down, talk down to someone so different, talk something out, talk someone into something, and talk something through.

  • Okay, so there they are.

  • Let me give you some examples of what they mean and how you can use them to talk over something.

  • Well, when we talk over something, it means we discuss it because we're not sure about it, we're uncertain as to the outcome.

  • We want somebody else's opinion or somebody's got a problem and you say, well, look, why don't we talk it over later?

  • Okay, why don't we talk it over?

  • When I get home, we'll need to talk it over with the kids before we decide, you know, if you're going to move house or where you're going on holidays or what other things you want to do, you'll have to talk it over with your father.

  • He won't be so happy.

  • If you're going to stop your university course or you're going to change the course, so you'll have to talk it over with them.

  • Okay, so all the time somebody has got an issue, somebody's got a problem, and we talk it over so that we hear both sides of the discussion, both sides of the arguments, and then we make a decision.

  • So to talk it over, we can also talk over somebody at a meeting, so they have something to say, and before they finish, we start talking.

  • We talk over them, and they don't like it.
