  • Hi there, this is Harry, and welcome back to another podcast where I try to help you to understand the english language in a better way so that you can communicate better both in terms of business English and just ordinary conversations that we have with family and friends or for that job interview that you want to get.

  • So we look at idiomatic expressions, phrasal verbs, improving your vocabulary, all aspects of grammar and pronunciation.

  • So if there's anybody out there that you think will enjoy this or will benefit from it, then of course, please give them the details.

  • And as always, I'll give you my contact details at the end of this particular podcast.

  • So what are we going to look at?

  • Well, actually the clue is in the word look.

  • So what we're going to do is talk about ways of looking.

  • Yeah.

  • So different words that mean to look in some way.

  • Okay, so let me give you the list of them and I'll give you an explanation of each.

  • Glance, notice, observe, peer, recognize, stare, gawk, and spelled g a w k.

  • Examine, catch someone's eye, catch a glimpse of.

  • Okay, so let me go through them and give you some examples and hopefully you'll understand what they mean.

  • To glance.

  • To glance means to look at something quickly.

  • Did you get a chance to look at those documents that I left on your desk?

  • Ah, I glanced at them quickly, but I didn't see anything that was of interest.

  • I'll look at them in more detail later.

  • So glance means to look at something a little bit quickly.

  • Yeah.
