11 分钟Hi there.
This is Harry, and welcome to my podcast, where I try to help you to get a better understanding of the english language.
So I help you with your pronunciation, make sure the grammar is correct, look at expressions, phrasal verbs, idiomatic expressions, everything to do with conversational English, either when you're talking on a one to one or in a business relationship.
So if you have anybody you know who you think will benefit from these podcasts or might enjoy them, well, why don't you give them the details and I'll give you my contact details, as always, at the end of the podcast.
So what are we going to talk about today?
Well, we're going to talk about trees, so not about going out and hugging a tree, although that's not such a bad idea.
If you're feeling in love with nature, you can be a little tree hugger.
We're going to talk specifically about expressions with the word tree.
T r e e.
Okay, now, this is not the number three.
Some people mispronounce this and say tree, tree men, tree, apples, but three.
So not to confuse you, we're talking about expressions with the word tree.
So I'm going to give them to you one after the other, and then I'll go through them and give you some examples.
Okay, here they are.
Family tree, the tree of knowledge, out of your tree.
You can be bored out of your tree, up a tree.
Money doesn't grow on trees to bark up the wrong tree, cannot see the wood for the trees.
And finally, the apple never falls far from the tree.
So what do these mean and how do we use them?
Well, family tree is just a piece of paper, or now digital, and you put down details of your family, and then you follow and trace your ancestors from your parents back to your grandparents, back to their parents, and so on.
