  • Hi there, this is Harry, and welcome back to my podcast where I try to help you to get a better understanding of the english language, help you to improve your general English, your overall communication, conversational English, small talk, all the aspects of English that you need, even the information and help that you might need to get a better job where English is needed for all of those forums that you have to attend, Zoom calls and other platforms that you use.

  • So just come to me, you've got the right location and the right place.

  • We've got everything that you need.

  • So what are we going to talk about in this particular podcast?

  • Well, here today we're going to talk about some phrases and the phrases using the word at, the preposition at, and these are going to be fixed phrases with the preposition at, fixed phrases with at.

  • So as always, I'm going to go through them one by one and then I'll give you some examples at the end of the podcast.

  • I'll give you my contact details.

  • If you want to contact me.

  • If you have any questions to ask or something that you might not quite understand, hopefully you will.

  • Okay, here we go.

  • At last, at a loss, at times, at odds with, at a standstill, at a glance, at a loose end, at all costs, at first sight, at someone's service or at your service, for example.

  • Okay, let's look at some examples.

  • At last.

  • Well, we can use this in quite a few ways.

  • I got that job at last, meaning I had to wait a long time, but eventually I got it.

  • I got that promotion at last again, something about having to wait a long time.

  • But if we want to use it in a sort of a way that we show that we're a little bit frustrated.

  • Ah, at last, the bus has finally come.

  • Okay.

  • Or if somebody gets that book or brings back the book that you had lent them and you're joking with them, go, oh, at last.
